7 month County wellness campaign tour created to engage communities to exercise, eat healthy, and explore County’s award winning parks to conduct two run/walks at Bladensburg Waterfront Park on Monday, June 20, 2016
LARGO, MARYLAND –Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III, the Prince George’s County Health Department and the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission Department of Parks and Recreation will conduct the third Step it Up! Family Fitness Club’s walk/run at Bladensburg Waterfront Park Walking Loop Trail on Monday 20, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. This event is part of a walking and running club campaign over the next seven months designed to engage residents to commit to healthy eating and activities at various parks, tracks and trails in Prince George’s County.
“I am so proud and thankful to the Prince George’s County Health Department and the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission for creating this campaign and the opportunity it provides for us to promote wellness as well as community and fellowship,” said Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III. “I hope that Prince Georgians from all over the County will join us at the historic and beautiful Bladensburg Waterfront Park for our third June run/walk event Monday, June 20th.”
The Step it Up! Family Fitness Club will be held twice a month continuing through November 2016. The initiative is inspired by the County’s mission to reduce the risks of County residents developing chronic diseases, and encouraging our residents to say “YES” to a healthier lifestyle. The goal of this fitness campaign is to reduce the impact of chronic diseases that include Type 2 Diabetes, Hypertension, Osteoarthritis, and other diseases. 67.6% of adults in Prince George’s County are classified as overweight or obese, and in response we are providing more opportunities to participate in physical activities throughout the County.
