[ARCHIVED] FOUR WINNERS OF THE HOUSE LOTTERY BEGIN THEIR PATH TO HOME OWNERSHIP IN PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY

Largo, MD --- The Prince George's County Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) and the Housing Authority of Prince George's County hosted a successful 2016 Housing Fair on Saturday, June 11th with over 3,000 attendees seeking information from housing industry professionals on home ownership as well as home maintenance and home improvement.

Four lucky home buyers were the winners of the house lottery where each one could receive up to $10,000 in down payment and closing cost toward the purchase of their first home. Each winner can now begin their search for their perfect home in Prince George's County. “We are delighted that we can be instrumental in assisting first-time home buyers head down the path to home ownership,” said Eric C. Brown, Director of DHCD. “Congratulations to all the winners.”

Ellen A. Dalton of Upper Marlboro, Ghenet Beraki of Washington, DC, Glander Dunn pf Bowie, and Brittney Forgy of Cheverly were all winners last Saturday of the 2016 House Lottery. Each winner was filled with emotion as Prince George's County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III called their name and they approached the podium. “I just can’t believe it!” remarked Ellen Dalton. The winners have until October 11, 2016 to find a home and schedule their closing. The down payment and closing cost money each winner receives from DHCD is in the form of a 0% interest loan which is forgiven as long as the buyer resides in the home for 10 years. Each winner must also attend an 8-hour first time home buyer’s class given by a HUD-certified housing counseling agency and they must use a DHCD approved lender to obtain their mortgage.

The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development sponsored its “Mortgage Late? Don’t Wait” program at the Housing Fair for home owners who are having trouble paying their mortgage or facing foreclosure.
