Largo, MD --- The Redevelopment Authority of Prince George’s County (RDA) is soliciting proposals from builders and developers for two new projects in Suitland, MD: a 137 unit senior (62 years of age and older) building; and 219 market rate, fee simple townhouses. Both developments are within a short walk to the Suitland Metro Station and accessible to the Suitland Parkway, making a trip to downtown Washington, D.C. less than 20 minutes.
“The Suitland Town Center has all the qualities needed to redevelop this area of Suitland into an exciting new place,” said County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III. “Imagine a walkable, sustainable, transit-oriented, mixed-use development with housing and retail all easily accessible to downtown Washington, D.C. Imagine Suitland with a performing arts center that hosts plays and musical acts.”
Each project will exemplify the principles of walkability, sustainability and transit-oriented development. Both projects are part of the initial phase of the development of the Town Square at Suitland Federal Center, a 25-acre mixed use project that includes nearly 900 new housing units, 80,000 square feet of retail space, two large public parks and a performing arts center.
“Suitland has long been a priority for County Executive Baker,” said Howard Ways, Executive Director of the RDA. “I am pleased to present these opportunities for transit-oriented development near one of the largest employment centers in the region, the Suitland Federal Center.”
“My Administration and the County Council have made a significant financial commitment to Suitland to make the Towne Square development possible, says County Executive Baker. “These are the types of projects that will bring the economic development and amenities that our older, more established communities have desired for quite some time.”
Proposals are due July 29, 2016 for the townhouses and August 1, 2016 for the senior building.
