[ARCHIVED] County Executive Baker Encourages Residents To Plan Ahead For Metrorail Repair Project

LARGO-(MD) The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) has released a final year long rehabilitation plan to perform maintenance and repairs to the Metrorail system. The WMATA plan, known as SafeTrack, will affect Prince George’s County residents, workers and visitors who commute and travel throughout the metropolitan region.
While necessary to improve safety and enhance the system, County Executive Baker warns that SafeTrack will inconvenience Prince George’s County residents, particularly during certain segment shutdowns. “There will be delays and inconveniences throughout SafeTrack, and I encourage residents to plan accordingly and be proactive in seeking alternative transportation solutions. I also encourage the business community to explore options to assist employees such as telecommuting and flexible work schedules”, said County Executive Baker.
Details of the WMATA SafeTrack plan and its schedule of activities can be found at www.wmata.com.
The County plans to continue meeting local transit needs as the Metrorail repair project progresses. “We will be keeping a close eye on SafeTrack activities, but TheBus will continue to operate on a normal schedule.” said Darrell B. Mobley, Director of the Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T).
County residents and visitors can access information to assist in navigating through SafeTrack activities at http://www.princegeorgescountymd.gov/sites/PublicWorks/Transit/TheBus and http://www.ridesmartsolutions.com/.”
