A Mt. Rainier man has been found guilty of sexually abusing his stepdaughter since she was five years old.

UPPER MARLBORO, MD – A Mt. Rainier man has been convicted for repeatedly sexually abusing his stepdaughter since she was five years old, Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Aisha N. Braveboy announced today.

Miguel Cedillos-Zuniga, 49, was found guilty by a Prince George’s County jury of five counts of third degree sex offense for sexually abusing his wife’s daughter from 2012 to 2017.

In June 2017, the Prince George’s County Police Department opened an investigation into allegations that Cedillos-Zuniga had been sexually abusing his wife’s daughter. The investigation began after the victim, who was 10 years old at the time, disclosed the abuse to her biological father. After a six-month investigation, police charged Cedillos-Zuniga with multiple counts of sexual abuse against the minor child dating back to 2012.

After a three-day trial and four hours of deliberation, the jury returned the guilty verdict.

“I am pleased that we were able to secure a conviction against Mr. Cedillos-Zuniga,” said State’s Attorney Braveboy. “Because of his crimes, this innocent girl will face years, and likely decades of pain and healing. My office will be requesting the court to impose a sentence that recognizes the heinous acts Mr. Cedillos-Zuniga committed and the impact on the victim.”

Sentencing for Cedillos-Zuniga is set for May 17, 2019. He faces up to fifty years in prison.
