LARGO, MD – The Prince George's County Health Department will provide free HIV testing in support of National Gay/Bisexual HIV/AIDS Awareness Day.
Prince George’s County is partnering with Us Helping Us, People Into Living Inc., a nonprofit organization founded in 1985 in response to the national AIDS epidemic.
National Gay/Bisexual HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, observed each year on September 27, is a national day of action where a network of public and private partners join forces to increase knowledge, raise awareness and confront the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS, while promoting actions to stop the spread of the disease. It is also an opportunity to promote and provide testing and encourage the importance of knowing your status.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends HIV testing as part of routine health care. In the United States, there are more than 1.1 million people living with HIV. It’s estimated that number in Prince George's County is about 7,500, with an additional 1,400 residents living with undiagnosed HIV.
This year, free HIV testing will be available at Us Helping Us located at 8240 Professional Place, Landover, Maryland, 20785 on the following days:
- Monday, September 24 5 pm – 9 pm
- Thursday, September 27 9 am – 9 pm
The event is open to the public.
