County to plant 25 native trees

LARGO, MD - In honor of national Arbor Day, Prince George’s County will join members and employees of the Birchwood/Clearview Community Association, Inc., and The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission to plant 25 native trees at the Birchwood City Community Recreation Center in Oxon Hill.  Arbor Day is an annual observance that celebrates the benefits of trees to the environment and promotes tree planting and care.

Prince George’s County also celebrates being a recipient of the Tree City USA® Award. Through this award, Prince George’s County is recognized for its commitment to sound urban forestry management and meeting the core standards of Tree City USA. Prince George's is the only County to receive this award for 34 consecutive years.    

Special thanks are given to the Prince George’s County Department of Public Works and Transportation, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Forest Service, Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Master Gardeners of the University of Maryland Extension, The Neighborhood Design Center, the Prince George’s County Beautification Committee, and the Prince George’s Soil Conservation District for their generous sponsorship of DoE’s 2018 Arbor Day celebration.
