Prince George’s County Department of the Environment will also announce details of new “Zero Waste Plan”
Largo, MD: Tomorrow, Wednesday, April 11th, at 11:00 a.m., Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III will join the Prince George’s County Department of the Environment at the County’s Materials Recycling Facility, 1000 Ritchie Road, in Capitol Heights, to celebrate Prince George’s County being #1 in the State of Maryland for waste diversion according to the latest figures released by the Maryland Department of the Environment for calendar year 2016.This achievement marks the 3rd year in a row the County has attained this status. The County also currently ranks #1 in residential recycling.
Additionally, the Department of the Environment will announce details of a Zero Waste Plan that includes policies to assist Prince Georgians in reducing waste generation and maximize diversion of waste from the landfill through increased reuse, recycling and composting.
“Many Prince Georgians and Marylanders are unaware of these environmental accomplishments our residents have achieved with their waste and recycling habits over the past seven years,” said Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III. “It is a testament to environmental education campaigns and the dedication of our citizens to do their part to help sustain our planet’s ecosystem. Additionally, I want to thank Director Adam Ortiz and the Department of the Environment for their award winning programs and initiatives that helped achieve our top rankings and state accolades. Waste diversion and recycling directly benefit the environment and they also save taxpayer monies to create a better quality of life for all Prince Georgians.”
