General Services Administration’s (GSA) Inspector General to review agency’s decision not to relocate the FBI’s headquarters
Upper Marlboro, MD - Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III, released this statement following news that the General Services Administration’s (GSA) Inspector General will review the agency’s decision not to relocate the FBI’s headquarters from the current J. Edgar Hoover Building site in Washington, DC. Two of three finalist sites for a new FBI Headquarters were in Prince George’s County at the former Landover Mall site and Greenbelt Metro station.
“I am pleased with the news that the General Service Administration’s Inspector General has agreed to review what we believe is a significantly flawed and troublesome decision to cancel the FBI headquarters procurement. On behalf of the residents of Prince George’s County, I want to thank our vigilant Maryland Congressional delegation of Senator Cardin, Senator Van Hollen, Representative Hoyer and Representative Brown, as well as Representative Connolly from Virginia, for their steadfast pursuit of a fair and unbiased FBI Headquarters replacement process.
The decision to put a new facility at the J. Edgar Hoover Building site, once deemed the most expensive and least desirable option, is as shocking as it is baffling. Prince George's County and the State of Maryland stand ready to offer its two outstanding sites if a fair and objective process is resumed. As we said when the GSA cancelled the new FBI Headquarters relocation process earlier this year, we will continue to fight for this project because it is in the best interest of our national security, taxpayer investment, and for the men and women of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.”
