Fulfill your healthy New Year’s resolution by adopting a dog

LARGO, MD – Have a New Year’s resolution that involves getting into shape? Here’s one way you can stay on track and avoid the overcrowded gym. Starting January 2 through January 16, 2018, the Prince George’s County Animal Services Division (ASD) will host a “PUP Up for Fitness adoption event offering a discount off the regular adoption fee of $225 to just $28. That’s a cost saving of $197 and could be just what you need to keep the doctor away.

“This is a great way to make good on that New Year’s resolution to adopt an active lifestyle and get in shape. You’ll not only be getting exercise by walking your four-legged friend and so much more, but you’ll be giving a pet a second chance at life,” says Prince George's County Animal Services Division Chief Rodney Taylor. “If you’re searching for a new pet, I encourage you to take advantage of the reduced adoption fees and shop at our facility to find the new love of your life.”

Research shows that dog owners are more likely to take regular walks or hikes and remain active overall than non-dog owners. Other top health benefits of owning a dog include lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels, decreasing a person’s risk of heart attack, lessening anxiety and providing a boost to your overall physical, mental and emotional health.
