STEAM Dream Team Technology Showcase
Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math
Each summer, Prince George’s County’s Office of Information Technology (OIT) creates a summer internship for 20+ high school and college students. These interns are tasked with creating an innovative solution to any challenge within Prince George’s County. The program focuses on the development of a career pipeline and interceptive strategies to improve student matriculation and eventual career success in technology fields. The interns also learn several useful project management, presentation, and teamwork skills that help to enhance their professional abilities.

2018 Competition
In 2018, the objective of the summer program was to improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the health and wellness system in Prince George's County. Using any variation of a 3D printer, Mobile device application, Raspberry pi and Amazon echo device, teams were required to create a solution.

2017 Competition
In the summer of 2017, interns were tasked with using Amazon’s Alexa technology to create an innovative solution to a challenge that exists in the Prince George’s County Public School system.

2016 Competition
In the summer of 2016, six teams were charged with using a 3D printer, mobile application, and raspberry pi in order to address some of the most challenging issues facing Prince George’s County. Each team was assigned a different community that faces challenges including poverty, crime, inadequate education, and poor health rates.

2015 Competition
In the summer of 2015, the six teams competed again in the STEAM Team Dream Challenge and were each assigned a struggling area in Prince George’s County to focus on, a county agency, AND a technological device. The technologies assigned were Raspberry Pi, 3D printer, mobile application, video games, drones, and robots. The teams were tasked with relating all of these aspects of the project and create an effective solution.
