Yard Trim Collection

Curbside Collection

The Department of the Environment (DoE) will continue to provide trash, recycling, and yard trim collection services on schedule.

**All trash must be tied and bagged securely.**

Latex paint is NOT hazardous and should NOT be delivered to the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) site. Instead, residents should:

  1. Donate leftover latex paint to relatives, friends or neighbors who might need the paint for a project
  2. Allow leftover latex paint to dry and place it in the regular household trash bag for trash disposal.
  3. Use kitty litter or quick paint drying agents that many of the paint stores sell in packets (it is very inexpensive). Once the paint dries, place dried paint can(s) in the regular trash bag for regular trash disposal.

Organics Composting Facility

Open to residential and Commercial/Business customers.

Residents who have County-provided collections should continue to place their yard trim at the curb by 6 a.m. on Mondays for regular collections.

Residents who do not have curbside collection, may drop-off yard trim at the County’s Convenience Drop-off Centers during regular hours of operation, free of charge.
Convenience Centers

Residents who do not have County-provided curbside collection should use the Residential Convenience Drop-Off Centers for disposal of regular household bagged trash and recyclables.

**All Trash Must Be Tied and Bagged Securely**
Effective May 2, 2016, weekly curbside collection of yard trim/waste will be collected year-round on MONDAY ONLY!  Yard trim/waste includes grass clippings, leaves, small branches, brush and Christmas trees.

Please note
, that effective January 1, 2014, residential curbside yard waste/trim collection will no longer be accepted in plastic bags. Residents should place their yard trim/waste loose in a collection can or use large, yard waste paper bags. This change is in direct response to legislation passed by the Prince George's County Council for the purpose of amending the County Recycling Program to meet updated recycling goals. For more information about the new yard trim/waste collection policy:

Acceptable Containers

Yard trim/waste may be placed in heavy-duty paper bags or heavy-duty trash cans with handles and a secure lid. Cans must be clearly labeled "Yard Waste" or "Yard Trim" to ensure collection. Cardboard boxes are not acceptable containers.

Items Collected

Limbs collected curbside must not exceed 4 feet in length and 3 inches in diameter and must be securely tied in bundles. Bundles of limbs, bags and/or cans of dry grass and leaves must weigh less than 60 pounds. Wet grass and leaves must weigh less than 25 pounds.

Bamboo should be tied in bundles no longer than 4 feet and placed with household trash for collection.

Once the yard trim/waste is collected, it is taken to the Prince George's County Organics Composting Facility. This county-owned and operated composting facility processes over 50,000 tons of yard trim/waste annually.
