When citizens, residents and visitors in Prince George’s County need Police, Fire, EMS or Sheriff assistance, 911 Communications they call the professional men and women working in Prince George’s County Public Safety Communications. The 9-1-1, dispatch and supervisory personnel working on the other end of the phone are the first point of contact during an emergency; responding quickly to assess the situation and determine the necessary public safety response.
As first responders, Public Safety Communications personnel are the first to offer assistance and the first to provide support, comfort, or sympathy to citizens in distress. They are highly trained, dedicated and trusted public servants that save lives every day. Public Safety Communications 9-1-1 and dispatch personnel professionally and efficiently processed more than 1,400,000 calls for service in 2014.
Public Safety Communications is an internationally accredited public safety agency staffed with 200 civilian personnel working together as 9-1-1 call takers, law enforcement and fire/EMS dispatchers, trainers, supervisors, FOIA/MPIA processors, administrators, managers, technical staff and radio communication specialists. The Public Safety Communications 9-1-1 Center is a state of the art facility with advanced 9-1-1 dispatch training programs, sophisticated technology to receive and process emergency calls, and an interoperable radio system to communicate with first responders. Since the opening of the Primary Public Safety Communications facility in 2011, the County has hosted more than 1,000 tours from customers all over the USA as well as from over 25 different countries.
In March 2012, the National Academy of Emergency Dispatch (NAED) designated Prince George’s County Public Safety Communications 9-1-1 Center a Triple Accredited Center of Excellence (Tri-ACE). To achieve this, the highest distinction the Academy can bestow, this center achieved and maintained all of the Academy's standards of excellence for an Emergency Medical Dispatch, Emergency Police Dispatch and Emergency Fire Dispatch Communications center.
