Face Masks

In addition to vaccination, testing, and treatment, face masks are a critical tool to maximize your protection from getting COVID-19 and prevent the spread of the virus to others.

The CDC has a locator to help you find nearby pharmacies that provide free high-filtration masks or call 1-800-232-0233 (TTY 1-888-720-7489).

Face masks are optional:

  • in most public places in Prince George’s County

Face masks must be worn:

  • in any business or organization that requires customers or visitors to wear face masks
  • in County Government facilities that provide health care services
  • in County Government facilities with congregate living (i.e., shelters, corrections facilities, etc.)

Face masks are recommended:

  • indoors and in crowded areas
  • when using public transportation

Face masks should fit properly

Masks are made to contain droplets and particles you breathe, cough, or sneeze out. If they fit snugly around your nose, mouth, and chin, masks also provide you protection from particles spread by others. Masks must fully cover, without gaps, a person’s nose, mouth, and chin and be secured to the person’s head.

A KN95, N95 or surgical mask will provide the best protection from COVID-19 and its variants. If you must wear a cloth mask, it should have two or more layers and contain a filter. Visit the CDC’s webpage about masks for more information.
