Education and Outreach

More than 60% of deaths in Prince George's County are due to chronic illnesses like diabetes, hypertension and heart disease. Poor eating and physical inactivity contribute to overweight and obesity. Healthy eating includes consumption of appropriate portion sizes, fruits and vegetables. It also includes good fats, and reducing the consumption of salty foods, sugary drinks, and unhealthy fats.

The Health and Wellness Division implements health promotion activities, and uses evidence based strategies to deliver healthy eating and active living programming to Prince George’s County residents.  These activities and programs assist individuals to improve their quality of life by making healthier lifestyle choices.

Dine & Learn Program

Dine and Learn 
is a free health education program for residents of Suitland and surrounding areas of Prince George’s County. The purpose of this program is to promote healthy lifestyles through nutrition, physical activity and health education.  The program consists of four components: a nutrition segment, a physical fitness segment, a biometric health assessment and a cooking demonstration.

Join us for an interactive and educational evening on how to take steps towards a healthier you.  This free program features: 

  • A step-by-step live cooking demonstration led by a registered dietitian who will guide you through the ease and tastefulness of healthy cooking..
  • Food samples and recipes to try at home.
  • A nutrition discussion from a registered dietitian who will provide simple every day tips for healthier meal choices.
  • Fun and easy moves that keep you active for life.
  • Blood pressure screening.
