Weekly curbside collection of yard waste will be collected year round. Yard waste includes grass clippings, leaves, small branches, brush and Christmas trees. Please note, that effective January 1, 2014, residential curbside yard waste collection will no longer be accepted in plastic bags.Residents should place their yard waste loose in a collection can or use large, yard waste paper bags. This change is in direct response to legislation passed by the Prince George's County Council for the purpose of amending the County Recycling Program to meet updated recycling goals. For more information about the new yard waste collection policy, contact CountyClick 3-1-1.
Yard waste may be placed in heavy-duty paper bags, or heavy-duty trash cans with handles and a secure lid. Cans must be clearly labeled "Yard Waste" or "Yard Trim" to insure collection. Cardboard boxes are not acceptable containers.
Limbs collected curbside must not exceed four (4) feet in length and three (3) inches in diameter and must be securely tied in bundles. Bundles of limbs and bags of dry grass and leaves must weigh less than 60 pounds. Wet grass and leaves must weigh less than 25 pounds.
Once the yard waste is collected, it is taken to the Prince George's County Yard Waste Composting Facility. This County-owned and operated composting facility processes over 50,000 tons of yard waste annually.
