The Waste Management Division provides trash collection service to approximately 158,000 homes in the County. Citizens and residents in the County-contracted collection areas should place their trash containers at the front curb by 6:00 a.m. on their regularly scheduled collection day. Trash will be collected between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
The contractor will empty containers and return them to your curbside. The homeowner is responsible for storing and cleaning the containers. Neither the County nor the contractor will be responsible for items not intended for collection that are placed next to trash containers or for the removal of any containers other than regulation containers.
To report a missed trash, yard waste, recycling or bulky collection or to register a complaint about your trash collection, please submit a service request via the online CountyClick311 Citizen Service Request System or dial 3-1-1 for assistance.
Trash containers must be either:
- Permanent-type, standard metal with bottoms intact and no excessive rust;
- Watertight, heavy-duty plastic containers with handles and tight-fitting lids; or
- Securely tied, heavy-duty plastic bags.
No single container should exceed 60 pounds. There is no limit to the number of regulation containers that may be used.
- Garbage: food wastes accumulated in normal household use
- Trash: some plastics and ashes
Trash collection services will not be provided on the following holidays:
|New Year's Day
Collection will resume on the next regularly scheduled collection day except for areas with once-a-week refuse pick-up. For areas with once-a-week trash pick-up, collection will shift to the next day for the entire holiday collection. For example, if Monday is a holiday, Monday collection will be conducted on Tuesday, Tuesday collection will be conducted on Wednesday, etc.
Collection for Senior Citizens and the Disabled
The County provides back door collection of trash for senior citizens over 65 years of age and for disabled persons. To qualify, no one living in the home can be under 65 years of age or be physically able to carry the collection containers to the curb. To make arrangements for back door collection, dial 3-1-1.
Inclement Weather Policy
In the event of inclement weather, all bulky, regular trash, recycling and yard waste collections may be cancelled or delayed due to road or weather-related conditions. If collection services are postponed, every effort will be made to schedule pick-ups on the next regularly scheduled day. Residents are reminded that collection pickups can occur from
6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
In addition, all services located at the Brown Station Road Sanitary Landfill in Upper Marlboro including the Brown Station Road Public Container Pad and Recycling Area, the Household Hazardous Acceptance Site, the Electronics Recycling Acceptance Site, the Prince George's County Yard Waste Composting Facility, scrap tire and appliance disposal sites, and the Missouri Avenue Solid Waste Acceptance and Recycling Center in Brandywine may also experience suspension in services due to severe weather.
