Resources for Youth and Parents


The Office of Human Resources Management (OHRM) is available to help youth who are new to the workforce or just starting their career search with resources to get them started on the right foot.  There are numerous resources that are available to help youth identify various career options, volunteer opportunities, employment and resume writing information.  Below are links to sites that will assist both youth and parents with Career Development, Employment, Internships, Scholarships, Work Permits and Resume Writing.

Career Development

Career Exploration- The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) provides information about different Careers and their educational requirements. Click here and select on your interest area.

Career Coach- Prince George’s Community College has a website for searching careers and educational programs offered by the college. Click here to access the website.

Resume Development

All prospective employers expect to see a well-organized and professional resume from applicants.  A good resume is an excellent way to present your educational accomplishments and experience.  A resume can be paper, e-mail or a profile on a social network site.  The link below provides a Resume Builder to create a resume that can be downloaded and saved. Click here to access the website.

Youth Employment Resources

If you are a young person seeking employment or are new to the workforce, the Department of Labor has some links to assist with finding a job, work hours, information about wages and workplace safety.  Please see the link below with steps on how to obtain a work permit. Click here to access the website.

Work Permit Process

Employment within Prince George’s County Government - The Office of Human Resources Management (OHRM) is responsible for the Recruitment, Examination and Classification process for Prince George’s County.  Applicants interested in applying to County positions and/or the Youth@Work/Summer Youth Enrichment Program should click here.
