Foster Care/Adoptive Services

Image of two young girlsThe Prince George’s County Department of Social Services considers our foster and adoptive parents to be a valuable resource. Foster parenting is about believing and investing in the future. It is about changing lives one child at a time. Visit Foster Care Program to learn more about foster care; or Adoption Program to learn more about Adoption.

The Prince George’s County Department of Social Services Foster Care and Adoption Program offers a variety of services to assist current and potential foster families. Through our Foster and Adoption Resource Unit (FAR), we recruit, train, study, approve and maintain active approved homes to provide foster care/adoptive resources for children in need of assistance. There are many children in foster care that need strong and supportive families; and we are continuously looking for permanent homes for County youth.

The Department of Social Services also offers an innovative absent parent locator service. This service is designed to assist with locating parents for purposes of finding an alternative placement for children in foster care, terminating parental rights and facilitating an efficient adoption process.

We will work in collaboration with you and your family to become a licensed foster or adoptive parent. For more immediate attention, here are ways that you can begin the process:

  • Call our Foster Parent Service Representatives. Our number is 301-909-CARE. A representative will provide you with information on the minimum requirements needed to become a resource parent.
  • Attend a Foster Parent Information Session. Monthly presentations are hosted by the Foster Parent Recruiter who will share with you in detail the requirements and need for resource homes. Go to Information Sessions to find a day and time that is convenient for you.
  • Submit an On-Line Inquiry Form. We use the inquiry form to learn more about the type of care you would like to provide. Submit an inquiry on-line and our representative will contact you.

We hope that you will consider becoming a part of the Department of Social Service’s family! If you or someone you know has the time and talent to become a foster or adoptive family, please have them call us at 301-909-CARE. We look forward to you joining our family.

If you have other questions or concerns about the Foster Care and Adoption Program, you may contact the Bureau Chief for Foster Care and Adoptions at 301-909-2000.
