LARGO, MD – The Prince George’s County Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) announced the temporary partial closure of Springfield Road South and Brandywine Road due to impacts from the recent heavy rains.
DPW&T closed Springfield Road South from Floral Park Road to the 18500 block to vehicular traffic on August 12 due to the failure of a 72-inch pipe under the roadway causing the road to collapse. DPW&T is currently conducting engineering studies to determine the most appropriate and effective structural replacement for repairing the roadway. This section of Springfield Road South will remain closed until the necessary repairs are completed. Barrels and variable message signs have been placed to alert motorists of the road closure.
Brandywine Road from the 11700 block to Hickory Bend Drive was closed to traffic on August 12 due to the heavy rains and debris undermining the shoulder of the roadway. DPW&T has installed temporary signals and reopened one lane to vehicular traffic. It is anticipated that Brandywine Road will be partially closed for approximately 2 weeks for roadway repairs.
