Landover - District 3

District 3 covers a patrol area of 29 square miles consisting of two sectors, George and Henry.  George Sector includes the cities of Glenarden, Landover, Chapel Oaks, Capitol Heights, Seat Pleasant, Fairmont Heights and FedEx Field.  Henry Sector includes the cities of Capitol Heights, District Heights, Suitland and Forestville. This community has a dense population of approximately 132,500. It borders Washington DC's Eastern and Southern Avenues to the east, Route 50 to the north, the Capital Beltway to the west and Suitland Parkway to the south. District 3's facility is a part of Palmer Park, Police Services Complex building which contains Headquarters, Criminal Investigations Division, and Forensic Services Division.

District 3 staffing includes approximately 180 sworn officers and 7 civilian employees.  Our units consist of five patrol shifts, two community policing units, six school resource officers and one special assignment team.  The Central, Regional Investigation Division is housed within with in the District 3 station.  This unit consists of a robbery suppression team, burglary suppression team, crimes against persons unit and a missing person detective.  These units work with patrol officers to prevent and solve crimes.

District 3 hosts a weekly Police Explorer meeting, a monthly Citizens Advisory Council meeting and a monthly Coffee Circle.  Our officers participate in the TRIAD program with senior citizens.  Through events such as these, we are able to form meaningful partnerships with our communities. Our officers are available to attend community and neighborhood watch meetings upon request.

District 3 is the home of Explorer Post 301 consisting of youth from our community who are interested in law enforcement.  They meet every Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. and participate in various training and team building exercises.  Our explorers interact with police officers and community members while learning about leadership and service.  This program is under our community policing units and focuses on building future law enforcement leaders.

District 3 Citizens Advisory Council is comprised of community leaders selected by the command staff.  The Council serves as direct advisors to the Commander of District 3.  They are true partners of the agency and share the commitment of improving the quality of life within the county.  The Council provides valuable information to the Commander and is involved in the design and implementation of various crime reduction strategies, throughout the District.  Our Council meets monthly and attends various events throughout the year.  They are a valued group within the District 3 Station.

District 3 Coffee Circle is held on the first Wednesday of each month at Wegman’s of Woodmore.  This meeting is open to the public and covers a variety of topics that aide our citizens.  This forum also provides for casual interactions with the community and our officers.

Our officers are available to attend community meetings and can speak on a variety of topics.  We offer crime prevention and neighborhood watch training.  Our success is directly related to our relationships in our communities.  District 3 is committed to providing a high quality police service and we encourage our communities to get involved.  Anyone interested in obtaining more information about our programs should contact the station directly.
