Biography

 

Commissioner Michael Thompson

​Michael Thompson was born in Washington, D.C. At the age of one, Michael and his family moved to Landover Hills, MD where he currently resides. Michael attended Landover Hills Elementary School and Glenridge Junior High in Prince Georges County before attending Emerson Preparatory High School in Washington, D.C. Michael also attended Montgomery College, Takoma Park majoring in Business Administration.


Michael began a long career in banking in 1983 as a teller for First National Bank of Maryland. During the course of his career Michael also worked for Mellon Bank, Maryland Federal Savings and Loan which later became BB&T, Greater Atlantic Bank in Virginia, and most recently Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Union. After 30 years in finance Michael accepted a position as Treasurer/Code Enforcement Officer for his hometown of Landover Hills this past March. In addition, Michael was a four term councilmember for the town during which time he was involved in many civic and community activities.


In his spare time Michael enjoys running, weightlifting, bowling, the theater, martial arts, and volunteering for the Whitman-Walker Clinic in DC. He is an avid cat lover and music enthusiast with a large and ever growing rare record and tape collection. Michael views his participation as a cable commissioner as another way to give back to the community.
