If you believe you have been discriminated against and you would like to file a complaint, contact our office at 301.883.6170 to schedule an appointment with one of our Investigators.
YOU MUST APPEAR IN PERSON TO FILE A COMPLAINT.
During your appointment, you will discuss the issues surrounding your complaint and the Investigator will consult federal and local guidelines to determine if the complaint can be processed by this office.
Upon arrival for your appointment, please make every effort to bring the following:
- Valid Picture ID, (preferably a Drivers License)
- Name and address of the company/establishment and/or person(s) that you are filing your complaint against;
- Information for a contact person, (e.g. an immediate supervisor if you are filing an employment discrimination complaint)
- Names, addresses and telephone numbers of any potential witnesses that you would like the Investigator to interview
What Happens After A Complaint is Filed
Once a complaint (charge) of discrimination has been processed by our office, the following will occur:
- We will notify the Respondent (party whom the charge has been filed against), that a complaint of discrimination has been lodged.
- We will forward standard complaint documents inclusive of an (RFI), Request for Information to the Respondent.
- We will inquire as to whether or not the Respondent is interested in Alternative Dispute Resolution as a means to resolving the matter.
- Once the RFI information is received by the Respondent, the information requested will be forwarded to the Investigator who initiated the intake at which point the case will then be referred to the Alternative Dispute Resolution Team for Mediation.
