Brian R. Moe, currently serves as Director of Prince George’s County’s Office of Homeland Security. Moe had served as the Maryland Deputy Secretary of State and the Governor’s Liaison to the Maryland Fire, Rescue and EMS organizations under Governor Martin O’Malley from 2007 until being tapped as Homeland Security Director in December 2010 by County Executive Rushern Baker III.

He previously served in the Maryland House of Delegates representing the constituents in the 21st District from 1998 to 2006. Moe served on the Economic Matters Committee and was part of the House leadership as the Chief Deputy Majority Whip for 3 years. He also was the Co-founder and former chair of the Maryland Fire, Rescue and EMS Caucus.

Moe worked as a professional firefighter in Howard County, Maryland for the Department of Fire and Rescue Services for 25 years, where he was awarded a Bronze Medal of Valor before retiring in 2007. He is also a Life Member of the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department, Co 10, for more than 33 years and served as Fire Chief and President and Chairman of the Board. Moe was inducted into the Prince George’s County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association Hall of Fame in 1997 and is a member of IAFF Local 2000 and a member of the HC Retired Firefighters Association.

In 2011, Moe was appointed to the Governor’s Emergency Management Advisory Council (GEMAC) and in 2012, to the Statewide Interoperability Executive Steering Group. Moe also currently serves as vice-chair of the board at Laurel Regional Hospital. Previously, he was on the Prince George’s County Board of License Commissioners from 1990 to 1998, and has obtained numerous awards and specialized training in the public safety field.

Moe was born and raised in Prince George’s County, where he and his family live today, married to his wonderful wife Joann of 27 years with 3 children; Alexandra, Kersten and Scottie.
