Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)

Special Nutrition Program for Women and Children

The Prince George’s County Health Department WIC (Women, Infants and Children) Program is a special nutritional program for pregnant women, women who are breastfeeding or who have just had a baby, infants and children between one year and five years of age.

WIC provides nutritional assessments; nutrition education, breastfeeding counseling and support; health care; social service referrals; and checks that clients use to purchase select healthy foods.

Foods provided by WIC may include:

Milk Cheese Eggs
Beans, peas and lentils Peanut butter Canned fish
Fruits and vegetables Fruit juices Whole wheat bread, brown rice, wheat or corn tortillas
Cereal Soy beverages Tofu
Infant food (such as formula, cereal, vegetables and fruit, and meat)

Eligibility Guidelines

To be eligible for WIC, applicants must;

  • live in Maryland
  • meet program income guidelines below, and
  • be at-risk for a nutritional problem determined by WIC staff during the first WIC appointment.
