Special Nutrition Program for Women and Children
The Prince George’s County Health Department WIC (Women, Infants and Children) Program is a special nutritional program for pregnant women, women who are breastfeeding or who have just had a baby, infants and children between one year and five years of age.
WIC provides nutritional assessments; nutrition education, breastfeeding counseling and support; health care; social service referrals; and checks that clients use to purchase select healthy foods.
Foods provided by WIC may include:
|Beans, peas and lentils
|Fruits and vegetables
||Whole wheat bread, brown rice, wheat or corn tortillas|
|Infant food (such as formula, cereal, vegetables and fruit, and meat)|
To be eligible for WIC, applicants must;
- live in Maryland
- meet program income guidelines below, and
- be at-risk for a nutritional problem determined by WIC staff during the first WIC appointment.
