Is that the Division of Environmental Health, Prince George's County Health Department be recognized in the community as a responsive and creative, service-oriented enforcement agent dedicated to
- the protection and promotion of public health
- an improved quality of life, and
- the attainment and preservation of a healthier environment.
Is that the Division of Environmental Health, through regulatory programs, education, community awareness and cooperative working relationships, seeks to ensure that County citizens, residents, workers and businesses are provided with an environment which is conducive to the promotion of health and well-being, with an emphasis on the prevention of disease and injury.
The Health Department works with the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) to reduce the amount of fats, oils and grease getting into its sewer system. In the Food Protection Program, we work with food service facilities to ensure that grease is disposed of properly, not into the sewer system. The Environmental Engineering Program investigates overflowing sewer complaints in streams. Most of these overflows are the result of some sort of blockage of the sewer lines. That blockage is generally the result of grease, which usually comes from a food service facility that is not maintaining their grease abatement system.
