LARGO, MD -- Prince George’s County Health Department will partner with the Maryland Dental Action Coalition and its Healthy Teeth, Healthy Kids oral health literacy campaign to kick off National Children’s Dental Health Month on Friday, Feb. 1 by providing dental exams and cleanings for children. The pre-scheduled exams will be performed at the Cheverly Health Center located at 3003 Hospital Drive, Cheverly, MD 20785 from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM. Additionally, the Health Department’s dental program will provide free screenings and fluoride varnish applications for children ages 0 to 18years old throughout the month, Monday-Friday from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM.
On Feb. 4th in conjunction with dental exams and cleanings, the Maryland Dental Action Coalition will launch a Spanish language social marketing campaign, Dientes Sanos, Niños Sanos, which will target low-income Hispanic women ages 18 – 34 to raise awareness of oral health issues. The purpose of the campaign is to provide mothers of Hispanic children with health messaging that will reduce oral disease by increasing healthy behaviors and improving access to dental care. The campaign includes a Web site, www.DientesSanosNinosSanos.org, nine weeks of radio ads on El Zol 107.9 FM, Spanish language brochures, posters and a toll free hot line 1-855-45-TEETH (83384).
