PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY GEARS UP FOR MARYLAND HEALTH CONNECTION ENROLLMENT STARTING OCTOBER 1, 2013

LANDOVER, MD - -On October 1, 2013 in Prince George’s County and across the nation, thousands of residents will have a new hassle-free way to shop for health care coverage for their families.  It is estimated that in the Washington region alone, over 220,000 uninsured residents will now have the opportunity to enroll into Medicaid, Maryland Children’s Health Program, and qualified health plans.

The Prince George’s County Health Department and the Department of Social Services are leading the effort to ensure all residents are educated on the enrollment process – including the requirements and locations to sign up. The enrollment period is October 1, - March 31, 2014 and coverage will begin on January 1, 2014. Individuals and families can shop, compare, and enroll in coverage using one of three ways:  

  1. Online at www.marylandhealthconnection.gov
  2. By speaking with a Navigator staff member at 1-855-642-8572
  3. Speak in-person to one of the Navigators or assisters for the Capital region at one of the following public agency sites.

Starting October 1, 2013, Individuals should use this helpful checklist when preparing to complete their applications:

  • Social Security Numbers (or document numbers for any legal immigrants who need insurance).
  • Birthdates and general information about you and your family members who are applying for health coverage.
  • Employer and income information for everyone in your family (paystubs, W-2 forms, or wage and tax statements)
  • Policy numbers for any current health insurance
  • Information about any job-related health insurance available to your family.
