World Elder Abuse Awareness Day
On Monday, June 15, 2015, The Prince George’s County Department of Family Services in partnership with the State’s Attorney's Office recognized World Elder Abuse Awareness Day at the Laurel - Beltsville Senior Activity Center. The event provided information and resources on how to recognize and combat financial and physical abuse.
The annual event is an opportunity for communities around the world to promote a better understanding of abuse and neglect of older persons by raising awareness of the cultural, social, economic, and demographic processes affecting elder abuse and neglect. Topics of discussion included recognizing Social Security/Medicare scams, the basics of reverse mortgages, and legal issues pertaining to senior citizens.
May is Older Americans Month
Older adults are a vital part of our society. Since
1963, communities across the country have shown their gratitude by
celebrating Older Americans Month each May. The theme of this year’s
celebration is “Get into the Act,” to focus on how older adults are
taking charge of their health, getting engaged in their communities, and
making a positive impact in the lives of others. Join in on the opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of community engagement and the well being of older adults.
