Prince George’s County Recognizes World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

Camp Springs, MD - The Prince George’s County Department of Family Services in partnership with the Office of the State’s Attorney for Prince George’s County will recognize World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) at Community Hope AME Church located at Iverson Mall on Friday, June 13th, from 10:00a.m. - 2:00p.m.  This event will provide information and resources to assist vulnerable adults in learning how to recognize and combat financial and physical abuse.   The Prince George’s County World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) will feature guest speakers, resources, and workshops regarding:

Social Security/Medicare Fraud
  The Basics of Reverse Mortgages
Aging in Place
-   Guardianship

The purpose of WEEAD is to provide an opportunity for communities around the world to promote a better understanding of abuse and neglect of older persons by raising awareness of the cultural, social, economic, and demographic processes affecting elder abuse and neglect.  Each year, on or around June 15, communities and municipalities around the world plan activities and programs to recognize World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.  See flyer for more information.
