Camp Springs, MD - The Prince George’s County Department of Family Services Aging Services Division is sponsoring a FREE Caregivers Conference, “Empowering Carepartners,” on Wednesday, September 25, 2013. Download the flyer for event details.
The purpose of the Family Caregivers Conference is to provide information, support, and resources for families who face the challenge of caring for an aging parent, relative, or friend. The conference will provide caregivers with an opportunity to increase their knowledge of services and programs available to caregivers, learn strategies to reduce caregiver stress and develop a network of resources and support. The keynote speaker will be renowned author, Dr. Peter Rabins, author of the 36-Hour Day, known as the ‘bible’ for caring for persons with dementia.
"Special programs like the Caregivers Program are designed to provide the information and resources caregivers need in order to provide the quality of life for the person they are caring for,” said County Executive, Rushern L. Baker, III. “Caregiving can be a difficult task that requires patience and resilience. However, the Family Caregivers Conference is an opportunity for caregivers to access new tools, gain new information, forge new friendships, and most importantly - recognize and remember they are not alone.”
The conference is free and open to Prince George’s County caregivers that are caring for an older adult. Participants must pre-register beginning August 26, 2013, by calling 301-265-8457. Valid identification is required on the day of the event.
