Upper Marlboro, MD – Today, Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III, released the following statement regarding the Prince George’s County Council’s selection of Council Member Mel Franklin (D-District 9) as Chair and Council Member Will Campos (D-District 2) as Vice Chair:

“I congratulate our new Council Chair Mel Franklin and Vice Chair Will Campos for being selected by their peers to lead the Prince George’s County Council.  I am confident that my administration will continue to work collaboratively with this new leadership team and the rest of the Council as we advocate for the residents of this great County.

I also thank outgoing County Council Chair Andrea Harrison for her leadership and commitment to improving the quality of life for all Prince Georgians.  During her two year tenure as Council Chair, we worked together on difficult issues that lead to significant changes and advancements in public safety, economic development, health care and education.  Additionally, I want to acknowledge Council Member Obie Patterson for serving as Vice Chair of the County Council throughout this year.  His support and concern for the people of this County made him an effective Vice Chair.

The citizens of Prince George’s County should be proud of the talented and dedicated representation they receive from all the Prince George’s County Council Members.  My administration looks forward to working with the Council in the coming year as we collaborate on issues and policies that are designed to move this County forward.”
