4th of July Holiday

Upper Marlboro, MD – Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III released the following statement in honor of the 4th of July holiday.

"As we enjoy this holiday with our families and friends at parades, picnics, and watching fireworks, I encourage all Prince Georgians to take time to rediscover the Declaration of Independence.  This holiday is a celebration of the liberties that we enjoy as Americans.  It is also a time for parents to talk with their children about our nation, our founding, and our rich history.

Our country entitles us to freedoms that our ancestors died and fought for, yet we often take these liberties for granted.  The 4th of July is a wonderful opportunity for us to rededicate ourselves to the principles that make this country great.

238 years after its founding, our country continues its quest to be that “more perfect union” President Lincoln talked about in the Gettysburg Address.  I am optimistic that we are move closer to that day as each generation passes.  God bless Prince George’s County, the State of Maryland and the United States of America.  I wish you all a safe and enjoyable 4th of July weekend."
