Opening of the Metro Silver Line

Upper Marlboro, MD - Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III, released this statement regarding the opening of the new Metro Silver Line this weekend.  For more information on the Metro Silver Line, please click here for the “Top 10 Things to Know for the Silver Line” published by the Fairfax County Government.

“This opening of the Silver Line marks the dawn of a new day for public transportation and economic development in the Washington Metropolitan region.  By further connecting the Metro system to more communities in Fairfax County and eventually to Dulles Airport and Loudoun County, our residents as well as people throughout the region will have easier access to areas of Prince George’s County and Virginia that did not exist before.  I look forward to the Silver Line stimulating economic development that will create more jobs and opportunity for our residents. It will also create a new transportation option that will help to reduce traffic on our already crowded roads and improve air quality and reduce pollution.

Prince George’s County sends our congratulations to our friends in Fairfax County on this game changing accomplishment.  The  Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, (WMATA) and, specifically, the Prince George’s County WMATA Board Members, Second Vice Chair Alvin J. Nichols and Board Member Artis Hampshire-Cowan, are commended for their commitment and due diligence throughout this process.

Time and time again, in the National Capital Region, the phrase ‘rising tides lift all ships’ applies and we recognize that when one part of our region improves and progresses, we all benefit collectively.”
