Upper Marlboro, MD - Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III released the following statement in recognition of Memorial Day.

"Memorial Day is very special to me because my wife and I are both products of military families.  We understand the tremendous sacrifice that the men and women of our armed forces make to protect our freedom and cherish the experiences we gained from military life. Our fathers were brave men who dedicated their lives to military service while serving as great parents and role models to their children.  Like many military families, we grew up seeing the strength of so many amazing families who stood proud despite carrying the heavy burden of separation or the loss of a loved one.  Military families understand and know how important the fight for freedom is to our country and the world.

Today, I ask all Prince Georgians to remember and thank the fearless men and women of the armed forces for putting America and its ideals first.  They deserve our appreciation and respect for all they have done for us.  There are countless families who have loved and lost a family member who was fighting to protect our homeland. We celebrate the commitment and love these men and women had for this great country and we must memorialize them in our hearts and souls.  God bless them, Prince George’s County and the United States of America.”
