Constituent areas include Camp Springs,
Clinton, Forest Heights, Fort Washington, Glass Manor, Marlow Heights,
Oxon Hill, and Temple Hills.
Patterson (D) – District 8 was elected to his second four-year term on the
Prince George’s County Council in the 2014 General Election.
Member Patterson will serve as Chair of the Council’s Public Safety and Fiscal
Management Committee for the 2015 Legislative Year. He was elected by his
colleagues to serve as Vice Chair of the Prince George's County Council for
Legislative Year 2013. In Legislative Year 2014, Council Member Patterson
served as Chair of the Council’s Health, Education and Human Services Committee
(HEHS); a member of the Transportation, Housing and the Environment Committee
(THE); a member of the Rules, General Assembly Committee and the Committee of
the Whole. Council Member Patterson is a designated board member for Prince
George’s Economic Development Corporation; and Council Representative to the
Prince George’s Community Foundation, as well as the Board for Social Services.
Member Patterson served 12 years in the Maryland House of Delegates, chairing
and serving on several committee and subcommittees, including Ways and Means,
Commerce and Government Matters, Protocol, Tax and Revenue, Transportation,
County Affairs and Education. He also served as House Floor Deputy
Majority Whip and House Assistant Majority Leader. Council Member Patterson
worked for 30 years at the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Member Patterson is the recipient of numerous honors and awards, including the
Johnson C. Smith University Trustees’ Award; the Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc. Brother of
the Year Award; the Prince George's County Educators Award; the Prince George's
County Realtors Award; and a Father of the Year Award. Council Member Patterson
is a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., the Pi Sigma National
Honor Society, the NAACP, the Roscoe C. Cartwright Prince Hall Masons, and the
Prince George’s Volunteer Action Center. Council Member Patterson has served as
a Maryland Parole Commissioner. He also served as president of the Maryland
Black Caucus Foundation and was the founder and former president of the African
American Democratic Club of Prince George’s County.
Member Patterson is a graduate of Johnson C. Smith University (JCSU) in
Charlotte, North Carolina with a B.S. in Biology. He also earned an
M.A. in Public Administration at the University of Florida, Gainesville and
remains active on the JCSU Board of Trustees and serves as Chair of the Student
Affairs Committee. He has served as an adjunct professor at Bowie State
University and Prince George's Community College.

Chair of the Trustee Board of Fort Foote Baptist Church in Fort Washington,
Maryland, Council Member Patterson is the proud father of two sons and a
daughter, and grandfather of two granddaughters and a grandson.
