Mary A. Lehman (D-District 1) was elected to her first four-year term on the Prince George’s County Council in the 2010 General Election. Council Member Lehman represents Adelphi, Beltsville, Calverton, College Park, Laurel, Montpelier, South Laurel, West Laurel, and Vansville.
Council Member Lehman will serve on the Health, Education and Human Services (HEHS), Public Safety and Fiscal Management (PSFM), and Rules and General Assembly Committees for the 2013 Legislative Year. Appointments include the Council of Government’s Climate, Energy and Environment Policy Committee. Council Member Lehman also serves as Council Representative to the Mental Health Advisory Board and the Health Advisory Committee for the Prince George’s County Boards and Commissions for 2011.
As a County Council Member Lehman has previously chaired the Transportation, Housing and the Environment Committee and pursued her commitment to the environment and good government through legislation. She is a champion of a strong public education system and her four children attend Prince George’s County Public Schools.
A longtime civic activist, Council Member Lehman worked as a legislative aide to State Delegate Josephine Pena-Melnyk, and previously as education liaison for former Prince George’s County Council Chair Tom Dernoga. A former journalist, Lehman covered Congress.
Lehman is a graduate of Eleanor Roosevelt High School, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Maryland College Park (1987). She is a member of Resurrection Catholic Church in Burtonsville and lives in Laurel with her husband and four children.
