“Our Pre-K-20 Strategy for College and Career Readiness in Prince George’s County” – April 22nd

The Prince George’s County Council will hold an Education Town Hall Meeting, “Our Pre-K-20 Strategy for College and Career Readiness in Prince George’s County,” on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Surrattsville High School, 6101 Garden Drive in Clinton, Maryland.

Council Chair Mel Franklin (D) – District 9 encourages County residents to participate in this comprehensive community discussion on such topics as student engagement, classroom curriculum, and preparing for college and careers.

“Education and the state of our school system are issues that impact every resident, even in households without school-age children.  Ultimately, our success as a County will be measured by the results we achieve for our students, and how well we prepare them to compete in a global society.  When students succeed, communities succeed.”

The County Council Education Town Hall Meeting will feature presentations from Prince George’s County’s top educators -- Prince George’s County Public Schools Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Kevin Maxwell; Prince George’s Community College President, Dr. Charlene Dukes; Bowie State University President, Dr. Mickey Burnim; and University of Maryland, College Park, College of Education Dean, Dr. Donna Wiseman.

Topics to be discussed during the Education Town Hall include: keeping students in school and engaged; developing a more challenging and exciting curriculum; and preparing college ready and workforce ready high school graduates.
