CB-94-2013, Seeks to Increase Minimum Wage in Prince George’s County; Proposal Part of Regional Minimum Wage Effort

The Prince George’s County Council Committee on Public Safety and Fiscal Management (PSFM) will review Council Bill 94-2013, minimum wage legislation, on Thursday, October 17, 2013.  The legislation, part of a collaborative effort with the District of Columbia and Montgomery County to establish a “regional minimum wage,” seeks to gradually increase the minimum wage in Prince George’s County to $11.50.

The PSFM Committee Meeting will take place at 1:30 p.m.  in the County Administration Building, Council Committee Room 2027, 14741 Governor Oden Bowie Drive in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

CB-94-2013 would increase the minimum wage in Prince George’s County to $8.75 per hour beginning July 1, 2014; to $10.25 per hour beginning July 1, 2015; and to $11.50 per hour beginning July 1, 2016. Under the legislation, beginning July 1, 2017, the minimum wage would be adjusted for inflation in accordance with the Consumer Price Index, or the minimum wage pursuant to FLSA, whichever is greater.

Council Bill 94-2013 is one of 17 items included on the October 17th PSFM Committee meeting agenda.  The PSFM Committee will also discuss staffing and operational matters in the Fire/EMS Department with the Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association.
