No Council Meeting on Tuesday, June 10, 2014

The Prince George’s County Council will not convene in session on Tuesday, June 10, 2014.  Council Members will be among the hundreds of elected officials throughout the state of Maryland gathering in Ocean City for the Maryland Municipal League (MML) Annual Convention this week to “Educate, Engage and Excel.”  This year’s theme recognizes the important role of knowledge and networking in community leadership.

Council Chairman Mel Franklin (D) – District 9, a convention participant, says the MML Convention offers elected officials a unique and important opportunity to expand leadership skills and share best practices.

“This convention is a valuable resource for elected officials to collaborate and focus on the policy issues that are important to the residents we represent.  It is a remarkable opportunity to share best practices and examine innovative solutions to our most pressing challenges, and the timely updates provided on changes that continually occur in the municipal arena help us all to be more effective and productive leaders in our communities.”

Council Vice-Chair Will Campos (D) – District 2; Council Member Eric Olson (D) - District 3; and Council Member Andrea C. Harrison (D) – District 5 are also participating in this year’s MML Convention.

In addition to education and training workshops and more than 200 exhibits, the 2014 MML Annual Convention will also feature Keynote Speaker Cal Ripken, Jr. on leading and succeeding with the eight values of “The Ripken Way,” and an updated analysis of Maryland’s state and local economy presented by Chairman and CEO of Sage Policy Group, Inc., Anirban Basu, of the Mid-Atlantic region’s most noted economists.

The Maryland Municipal League's mission is to strengthen and support municipal government through advocacy and the development of effective leadership.  This year’s convention is earlier than usual because the State’s primary election conflicts with the League’s customary convention dates.   The Convention Center in Ocean City is a local polling site which utilizes the exhibit area for two days, making that space unavailable to MML.   For more information on MML or the Annual Convention, visit http://www.mdmunicipal.org/
