Forum Focuses on Safer Communities in the Oxon Hill Business District

Prince George’s County Council Member Obie Patterson (D) – District 8 and State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks will host a Business Community Crime Prevention and Emergency Response Forum on Wednesday, December 18, 2013, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. to discuss commercial crime within the Oxon Hill Business District. The forum will be held at the Clarion Hotel, 6400 Oxon Hill Road in Oxon Hill, Maryland.

The Business Community Crime Prevention & Emergency Response Forum will feature presentations from Prince George’s County Assistant State’s Attorney Rashid Mahdi and Prince George’s County Police Department COPS Supervisor, Sergeant Alfred Moss.  Topics of discussion will include Community Prosecution Assistance; security training; Prince George’s County’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP); 911 call support; and individualized safety plans.  Forum participants will have the opportunity to ask questions, as well as share viewpoints and concerns about public safety issues in the business community with Council Member Patterson and State’s Attorney Alsobrooks.

Council Member Patterson encourages members of the local business community to attend this important forum addressing commercial crime within the Oxon Hill Business District, and providing best practices for preventing robberies and theft.

“Members of the business community want to provide the safest working environment for their employees while safeguarding their businesses against crime,” said Council Member Patterson.  “This forum will provide business owners with viable crime prevention strategies and updates on ways the County is working to address public safety within the business community.  I encourage all stakeholders to join us for what promises to be an informative community meeting.”

“We have had tremendous success in crime reduction this year, but there is still work to be done,” Alsobrooks said.  “I know this forum will allow us to have the informative dialogues we need to address specific challenges in the Oxon Hill area and ensure that we work together with businesses and citizens to provide the safest environment possible.”
