Council Member Turner Partners with Bowie High School for “Stop the Madness II”
Prince George’s County Council Member Ingrid M. Turner, (D) – District 4, in partnership with the Bowie High School PTSO and Student Government Association, will host Leadership: Stop the Madness II – Anti-Bullying Symposium on Monday, September 30, 2013, from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Bowie Center for the Performing Arts, 15200 Annapolis Road in Bowie, Maryland.
The Stop the Madness II – Anti-Bullying Symposium will bring together 100 Bowie High School student leaders for a series of workshops directly addressing issues related to bullying. Topics of discussion include the impact of bullying, mediation and conflict resolution.
Council Member Turner says partnering with the student leaders to address bullying provides a level of insight deserving of attention.
“Engaging student leaders in the discussion on bullying was foremost in our minds during the planning process for Stop the Madness. They know the environment, and are well equipped to provide positive solutions to address this disturbing behavior. Working together, students, parents, faculty and concerned citizens can effectively teach our young people that bullying is harmful and must stop.”
The event will feature motivational speaker Mr. Duane Myko and the Washington Youth Choir, led by Executive Director Courtney Baker-Oliver and Musical Director Gregory Watkins. Council Member Turner, Maryland Circuit Court Judge Melanie Shaw Geter, and Bianca Garner-Smith, M.Ed. will lead symposium workshops. Prince George’s County Police Department representatives will facilitate lunchtime roundtable discussions.
