Department of Corrections Hands Out School Supplies To Elementary Students

UPPER MARLBORO, MD – The Department of Corrections will give more than 400 students at Barnaby Manor Elementary School in Oxon Hill, Maryland pre-packaged school supplies on, Monday, August 19, the first day of school.

Barnaby Manor Elementary students were selected as the recipients of the supplies because the school is located in one of the (6) County Executive’s Transforming Neighborhood Initiative areas.

This is the 18th year that the Department of Corrections has raised funds to support the program titled, “The Pencil Box Project.” The Pencil Box Project has donated school supplies to Prince George’s County school children since its inception.

Donations from local businesses, the South County Economic Development Association, Prince George’s Community Federal Credit Union, Corrections and Police unions, as well as Oxon Hill Volunteer Fire Fighters helped contribute to the purchase of the supplies.
