Maintains order in an assigned patrol area; enforces criminal and traffic laws mandated and authorized by state and local laws and ordinances; writes reports; presents cases in court; makes physical arrests; investigates traffic accidents; operates emergency vehicles; responds to calls for service involving conflict management/mediation; and provides effective and efficient service to the citizens of Prince George's County.

Investigates homicides, sexual assaults, child abuse, carjackings, robberies, and other crimes.

Executes search-and-arrest warrants. Negotiates with barricaded individuals and/or hostages in high-risk situations.

Handles all drug, prostitution, and gambling investigations.                      

Conducts building and article searches; tracks for suspects and lost or missing persons using trained dogs.

Enhances patrol to prevent and/or suppress criminal activity; assists with surveillance operations and stakeouts to successfully execute search-and-arrest warrants.

Uses state-of-the-art scientific testing to link people and weapons to crime. Comprised of the Drug Analysis Laboratory, DNA Laboratory, Firearms Examination Unit & Tool Mark Laboratory, Fingerprint Analysis Section and Computer Forensic Unit.

Uses proven scientific tools and methods to investigate all fatal and other serious motor vehicle accidents.

Uses helicopters to conduct aerial police patrol; supports ground patrol; and conducts searches for fleeing suspects and missing persons.

Investigates carjackings, bank, business, courier and residential robberies, as well as abductions involving ransoms.

Uses motorcycles to enforce traffic laws, with special emphasis on identifying violators of seat belt and child safety seat laws and those operating vehicles under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol; provides escorts for funerals and motorcades.

Investigates stolen autos, chop shops, insurance fraud, and tampering with vehicle identification numbers.

Coordinates departmental involvement in events such as parades, fairs, fundraisers, and escorts; plans police involvement in all events at FedEx Field.

Investigates embezzlements, identity theft, home improvement fraud, credit card offenses, bad checks, and forgery.

Uses the latest technology to process, collect, and preserve physical evidence from crime scenes.

Uses specialized techniques to find and apprehend the most violent crime offenders who have committed homicides, robbery, or sex crimes.

Investigates all homicides including suspicious deaths and suicides.

Uses geographic information systems to provide detailed crime analysis maps to address crime trends.
