Eric Olson (D) – District 3 was elected to his first four-year term on the County Council in the November 7, 2006 General Election. He was re-elected to the County Council in the November 2, 2010 General Election. Council Member Olson served as Vice Chair in 2011 and was re-elected as Vice Chair of the County Council for the 2012 Year. Vice Chair Olson represents the 3rd Councilmanic District of Prince George’s County, which comprises the areas of Beacon Heights, Berwyn Heights, College Heights Estates, College Park, East Pines, Glenn Dale, Glenridge, Landover Hills, Lanham, New Carrollton, Riverdale Heights and Hills, Riverdale Park, Seabrook, Templeton Knolls, University Park, West Lanham Hills, and Woodlawn.

In the 2012 Legislative Year, Vice Chair Olson serves as Vice Chair of the Transportation, Housing and Environment Committee and is a member of the Planning, Zoning and Economic Development Committee.He serves as the County Council’s representative to several boards and committees of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments including Chair of the Region Forward Coalition and a member of the Transportation Planning Board. He is the Council’s Liaison to the Prince George’s County Municipal Association. He was Chair of the County’s Youth and Gang Violence Task Force, which issued a final report in 2010.

Prior to his election to the County Council, Vice Chair Olson served on the College Park City Council from 1997 – 2006. During his time on the City Council he served on several boards including the Metropolitan Washington Air Quality Committee; the Metropolitan Washington Transportation Planning Board; and the Coalition to Build the Inner Purple Line. He is former Chair of the University Communities Caucus of the National League of Cities and served as a member of the University of Maryland’s Master Plan Committee.

Most recently, Vice Chair Olson directed the National Sierra Club’s Healthy Communities Campaign, where his work included promoting public transportation, creating more walkable, vibrant communities, and combating sprawl. He has previously worked as Deputy Director of the Center for Voting and Democracy, a national organization committed to election reform and voting rights. Vice Chair Olson also has four years of Capitol Hill experience as an Aide to then Congressman, and now U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), where he also served as staff coordinator for the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

Vice Chair Olson has a B.A. in History from Elmira College, and earned a Master’s degree in American Studies from the University of Maryland in 1995.

He is married to Sarah Treado, a social worker, and they are the proud parents of two young daughters.
