BOWIE, MD-The Prince George's County Department of Social Services along with the Office of the County Executive, Safeway, Inc. and
Tony McGhee, host of Redskin's Magazine Inc., distributed Safeway, Inc. gift certificates Monday, November 21, to 50 Hurricane
evacuees.
"We are a county in the most powerful country of the world and it is important for us to step up and help the evacuees and
their families have a happy holiday season and begin rebuilding their lives," Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Vernon Herron
said.
The certificates were distributed to each family and were redeemable for a complete Thanksgiving dinner. Families were able
to pick up the dinner at any Safeway, Inc. Deli location in the county.
The collaboration between the county, Safeway, Inc. and Redskins Magazine helped families living in Prince George's County
have a warm, holiday meal.
"These certificates are a gift from Mr. McGhee and Safeway, Inc. to help families in Prince George's County to have a better
Thanksgiving and Christmas," said Karyn Lynch, Director of Social Services.
More than 1,000 evacuees have come to Prince George's County following hurricanes that flooded the Gulf region in August.
