Several Departments & agencies are dedicated to public safety in the county.

The Prince George's County Police Department is the primary law enforcement agency in the County. The mission of the Police Department is to work in partnership with the citizens of Prince George's County toward providing a safe environment and enhancing the quality of life consistent with the values of our community.

With over 1,200 active career and volunteer personnel staff 47 fire/rescue stations, the mission of the Fire/EMS Department is to improve the quality of life in Prince George's County by promoting safety and delivering the highest possible level of protection for lives and property.

The Prince George's County Public Safety Communications Center (PSC) was created in 1997 under the direction of County Executive Wayne Curry. The sole purpose of this organization was to reorganize the receipt of emergency and non-emergency requests for service and to dispatch the appropriate personnel in an efficient and timely manner.

The mission of the Department of Corrections is to:
- Protect the safety of the citizens of Prince George's County by securing, in a humane environment, offenders legally entrusted to our custody and care, and to provide viable alternatives to incarceration.
- Provide opportunities whereby offenders are equipped with the skills to assist them in functioning as productive members of society.
- Promote staff development and training that ensures the maintenance of a safe, pleasant, clean and professional work environment.

Animal Management Group (AMG) Field Services responds to the following calls or complaints: Injured animals, Sick animals, Vicious animals, Trapped animals ,Cruelty complaints, Dead animals, Nuisance animals or animals running at large.
The Vehicle Audit Unit impounds abandoned vehicles from County roadways, apartment parking lots and commercial properties. This Unit also conducts public auctions of these vehicles every four weeks at the County Impound Lot in Upper Marlboro.

as general information is located on the Deparment of Public Works & Transportation's site.
When a snow emergency is declared, the Prince George's County Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) is responsible for providing "passable" conditions over a network of almost 1,700 miles of County maintained roadways. Clearing roadways consists of plowing and/or salting or sanding, as warranted by weather conditions.
