Financial Crimes Unit

Credit Card Fraud

If you are the victim of a compromised credit card and you live in Prince George's County the steps are as follows:

  1. Make a theft report with The Prince George’s County Police Department.
  2. Contact the credit card company and provide the case number (the victim will receive this number from the officer that takes their initial report).
  3. Contact the bank to fill out an affidavit.

The credit card company will normally reimburse the victim, if they find the victim was not at fault.  Once the victim is reimbursed the credit card company becomes the victim.  The credit card company will contact the Financial Crimes Unit.

If the financial institution does not reimburse the victim, the victim should contact the Financial Crimes Unit and schedule an appointment.  Once this occurs the Financial Crimes Unit will conduct the investigation.
