 Council Member Ingrid M. Turner hosted two special breakfasts for the administrators and teachers at Greenbelt Middle School and Benjamin Tasker Middle School in May in honor of “Teacher Appreciation Month.”   In her remarks to the schools, Council Member Turner sincerely thanked the teachers for their hard work and dedication to our students.  She expressed that she and the Prince George’s County Council appreciate all they do for our children. 

Several members of the Prince George’s County School Board came to thank the Greenbelt Middle School teachers including School Board Chair Verjeana M. Jacobs, Donna Hathaway Beck, At-Large, and Patricia J. Fletcher, District 3.

Record Number of Highly Qualified Teachers working in Prince George’s

Nearly nine of every 10 classes in schools with large numbers of students highly impacted by the challenges of poverty are now taught by “Highly Qualified” teachers in the core academic subject areas according to data released by the Prince George’s County Public Schools.  These teachers are shown to have the following qualifications:

  • Hold at least a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
  • Hold a valid Standard Professional Certificate or Advanced Professional Certificate or Resident Teacher Certificate in the subject area they are teaching.
  • Satisfy the requirements associated with specific teaching levels and experience.

United Communities Against Poverty, Inc. Job Fair

Maryland Higher Education Commission “Workforce Student Assistant Grant Program.

The Maryland Higher Education Commission has set up a “Workforce Shortage Student Assistant Grant Program for Academic Year 2008-2009.  The program is to assist in meeting the State’s need for well trained and highly skilled workers in the following areas:

  • Nursing
  • Physical Therapy; Physical Therapy Asst.; Occupational Therapy; Occupational Therapy Asst.
  • Childhood Development or Early Childhood Education

Art in Public Places Program

Community Meeting on Hiker/Biker Trail
