District 4 Showcase Events:

Council Member Ingrid M. Turner presented a Council Proclamation to Bowie State University Women’s Softball Coach, Mr. Fred Burroughs, and winning team members during Council Session on Tuesday, June 17, 2008.

Council Member Turner expressed her admiration for the dedication and hard work the team demonstrated to win the championship. ”I am so proud of Bowie State’s women’s softball team for their second consecutive CIAA win. This team did not rest on their laurels from the first win; they raised the bar and knew that as a team, with a dedicated consistent effort, that anything is possible.”

Prince George’s County offers Grants for Historic Property Owners

Grants of up to $100,000.00 are available to individuals and organizations to help rehabilitate, restore, preserve, or acquire historic properties in Prince George’s County. Individuals, nonprofit organizations, foundations and political subdivisions may apply for the grants. Grant applications are available at www.mncppc.org/county/hpc.htm. Copies of the application are also available at M-NCPPC’s Information Center on the lower level of the County Administration Building, 14741 Governor Oden Bowie Drive, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772 or by calling 301-952-3680. Draft applications must be postmarked or delivered by August 1, 2008. Final applications must be postmarked or delivered by November 1, 2008. Department of Parks and Recreation to name WB & A Trail bridge after Morris J. Warren

The Department of Parks and Recreation will name the future Washington, Baltimore & Annapolis Trail Bridge across the Patuxent River after Mr. Morris J. Warren. Mr. Warren was an outstanding advocate for the bicycling and trails communities and was instrumental in the WB & A Trail becoming a reality. Mr. Warren was a Bowie resident for many years and a long time friend to hundreds of Bowie residents.

Public Forum on Maximizing Bus Transit Opportunities

On Wednesday, July 9, 2008 from 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm, residents are encouraged to attend, and share their ideas and concerns about the provision of bus service within Greenbelt. For more information, call 301-345-5417.

Summer Educational Enrichment Programs by Greenbelt Cares

Summer tutoring for children in grades 2-6 will be offered on Wednesday mornings from July 9-July 30 from 9 am – 12 pm at the City of Greenbelt Municipal Building. Parents may call Greenbelt Cares at 301-345-6660 x 2016 for enrollment information and application.

Play Center

The Bowie Recreational Council will offer summer preschool play sessions for 3,4, and 5 year olds at Tulip Grove Elementary from July 21-August 1, 2008. For more information please call 301-464-3725.
